Insanely Affordable (And Good) Workout Wear

Let’s go ahead and get this out of the way- I hate to work out. Loathe it, actually. But I feel better when I do it, it keeps my mitral valve prolapse under control, it helps with my scoliosis, and guys, it’s just good for us. Today I want to share with you the types of workout clothes I wear. Don’t worry, I’m a basic kind of gal. Since I don’t like working out, I don’t like to spend a lot of money on workout gear. That’s why I’m steering you in the direction of Walmart. Some you can get in store and some online. Scroll on down to see my go-tos.

Sports Bras

We chesty girls have to be particular about our sports bras. I know there are better ones out there, but I hate paying that much for a sports bra. Trust me, I’ve tried my fair share of sports bras from Walmart, and this one has been my favorite. It is a plus size item and I got the 1X. I think I have lost enough weight that I could go down, so I’m linking this one too. They’re currently sold out in my size, but I’ll let you know what I think when it comes back in. Found the same style in these colors fully stocked all sizes. I ordered the XL and it fits perfectly. I prefer a bra made for high support and has a bit of padding in the cups. All three of these will fit the bill.

Tops

The tank I bought last year in multiple colors is all sold out, but this year’s version looks equally good and the colors are pretty. I’m linking it here. I always size up in these tops because I prefer them loose, so I own XXL tops. I do think I could do an XL, but I’m sticking with my XXL tops for now.

Bottoms

I’m a leggings girl. When your thighs touch, there’s nothing more annoying than going for a walk and your shorts doing the creep up your legs, so I stick with the leggings. I prefer the 7/8 length, and I prefer solid black. Here’s the pair I love and wear most often. I love that they have the side pockets for your phone. I wear an XL and say they are true to size. I also just got the XL in both this pair with the mesh detail in the back (marked down to $11) and this pair that are slightly longer but still cropped ($15), and both are pretty good. I like the cropped pair less than the mesh pair. The material doesn’t seem to be as good at compression.

I also have these in my Amazon cart that I hear nothing but good things about. People say they are like the Align leggings from Lululemon that are about $100. Having had a conversation with my fellow Norman gals over Christmas, they love some lulu sets and think the price is justified, but I’m still too cheap to buy myself some. Maybe I’ll watch for a sale and ask for some for my birthday or next Christmas. I’ll keep you posted.

Shoes

Well we all know shoes are something I don’t skimp on, so it’s no surprise the most expensive thing on the list are the shoes. Brooks, the ones below, are the exact shoes I own, and they are hands down the best tennis shoes I’ve ever owned. I went up a half size.

Whether you take working out seriously and you love it, or you’re more like me and hate it, I hope you’ve found some affordable pieces that could fit your budget for getting your sweat on in the new year.
Never compromise on your footwear, though. That’s where you should spend the bulk of your money for active wear every time.
And keep your eyes peeled in your local Walmart. There’s usually plenty of these kinds of pieces this time of year.
Have you started a workout regimen in the new year? I haven’t really, but Paul’s doctor did tell him he needed to start at least walking, so off we go!
