Seven on a Saturday- Life Hacks

Happy Saturday, folks! I hope you’ve had a fabulous week. I’m so happy it’s the weekend! I’ve officially reached the point where I live for the weekends again. Back to school for a teacher is rough stuff.

On the bright side, I’ve compiled another list of Seven on a Saturday for you. This time I’m giving you a few life hacks. I hope some you’re already doing and the rest I hope help you out.

  1. Prayer/Worship/Quiet Time every morningI have a friend that taught me about the value of prayer and spending time every single morning with God. I spend 30 minutes to an hour each morning reading a devotional, reading my bible, listening to praise and worship music on Pandora, and praying and/or journaling to God. I cannot tell you the value this has had on my life. I encourage you to do this too. Maybe you don’t think you have an extra minute in the morning much less 30, but if you prioritize your time and get up even ten minutes earlier, you’re sure to reap unthinkable benefits. It’s number one on my list of life hacks for a reason.
  2. Coconut OilI told you already about how I use coconut oil in my night time skincare routine as a makeup remover. I’ve also put it on burns, used it as a moisturizer for my face, used it on dry patches of skin and even on dry feet. I made a super fabulous sugar scrub with it- I’ll bring that recipe to the blog soon. *If you’re a self tanning girl like I am, you need to use this before you tan.* I even use it on my dogs when they have dry skin. Every spring they get dry skin because of something that grows outside, and coconut oil moisturizes their skin and cuts down on the scratching. They like to lick it all off, though, so put it on them then supervise closely! 🙂 It’s definitely a multi-use product that is an essential for any household.
  3. Screen Protector for your cell phone
Cracks throughout and one pretty bad down by the home button, but it still works and is one of the best things I could ever purchase to protect my phone.

My current phone is the only one I’ve ever put a screen protector on. I think I was just really lucky that all my other phone screens didn’t crack or break. This phone, however, has taken a beating, and thanks to my screen protector, it has been spared a cracked iPhone screen and a hefty repair bill. I spent $7 on Amazon for a two-pack, and it was a brilliantly spent $7. Perhaps it’s not the most groundbreaking life hack, but I’ve been super impressed with it and pleased with the protection it’s provided me. By the looks of it, I think it’s time I got myself a new one.

  4. Set the coffee pot the night before
That green light means my morning coffee will be waiting on me when I get up.

I haven’t always done this, but I make it a point to ready my coffee maker before I go to bed. Morning time is precious and having to think about how to make coffee before the sun comes up is often difficult if you’re not a morning person. I’m much more of a night owl than an early bird, so this simple step is a total first world luxury that I am happy to have. It’s worth the extra three minutes it takes you to do it. I’ve even been doing it on the weekends. Waking up to the smell of coffee is simply delightful and only second to waking up to the smell of bacon. 🙂

  5. Have a date night once a week
En route to a double date night. Eyes on the road #safetyfirst

This one pertains more to you couples but, on second thought, having a date night with yourself doesn’t sound so bad either. Paul and I go out every week. We most often make it Taco Tuesday because it’s not expensive and because, well, tacos. We started going almost every Tuesday this summer and pretty much haven’t stopped. Sometimes it’s just us and sometimes we meet up with friends, but it’s always a time where we get out of the house and spend some time together and connect. I’m so very easily a homebody, and date nights help me to resist getting into my PJs the moment I walk in the door.

  6. Always carry something to readThis is almost a no brainer because none of us go anywhere without our phones. And if we do, it’s likely not on purpose. I think it’s safe to say that most of us read on our phones whether it be social media or ebooks, newspaper articles, message boards, or just scrolling someone’s Instagram feed. How many of you ever carry around an actual book? Sure your purse might get heavier, but carrying a book in your bag can be such a blessing. Here’s a fact about me: Most Saturdays during football season are spent at my in-laws watching Auburn and other college games. Sometimes I lose interest if Auburn is losing or if we’re watching another team. Having a book or magazine is brilliant and saves me from looking at my phone screen for hours. Carrying your own reading material will provide instant entertainment at all manner of doctors’ offices, while traveling, and hanging by the pool. I challenge you to carry a book in your purse. When you’re presented with the opportunity, read. You won’t regret it.
  7. Dry ShampooThis one should come as no surprise. I can’t tell you how many mornings this stuff has saved me. Especially on days that I’ve overslept and didn’t have the time to wash, dry, and style my hair. A little dry shampoo and a ponytail and I’m out the door. I make my own, but there are some really great ones on the market. Truly a game changer for me. You can read how I made it here.

There you have it. Seven life hacks for your Saturday. How many of these do you do?

Do you have a quiet time every morning? How do you use coconut oil? Have you ever had to replace your phone screen because it was cracked? Coffee drinkers, it’s all about the preset, right? How often do you have date night and what do you do? Any other book worms out there that carry a book around in their bags? Dry shampooers, we’re the best kind of people right?

Tell me all the things! 🙂

Happy Saturday, my friends.
