DIY Lemon Sugar Scrub

Y’all know I love a good DIY. And you know I love a good DIY that includes pantry staples. And y’all know I like to use safer beauty products. So, it should come as no surprise to you today to see DIY in the title of this blog post or that it includes items in your cupboard or that it’s comprised of safer ingredients.

This is the second time I’ve made this scrub, and it occurred to me that I’ve never shared the recipe. And in an attempt to spread the word on safer beauty, I decided I needed to share this one with you. Of course there are plenty of sugar scrubs on the market. Most especially the Sugar Body Scrub in Lemongrass by Beautycounter. But since I’d made this one before and feel good about the ingredients, I’m happy and confident to share it with you now.

This all started because I wanted to exfoliate before using a self tanner. (Not a safer beauty product, by the way. I know there are safer options, but I haven’t gotten my hands on those yet. Come on, Beautycounter! Pale girls need a safe option, and we trust you!) Anyway, I know that exfoliating before tanning helps the tan to go on more evenly and helps it wear off evenly, too. Enter the sugar scrub. It really does make a difference when using before the self tanner.

The other reason I love sugar scrub is for the simple fact that your skin feels amazing after using it. I made it today, and even though it’s nearing 10:00 pm as I write this, I’m tempted to use it before bed. It is a Friday night, so it doesn’t really seem like a terrible idea. Not like I have to get up early in the morning.

I’m rambling.

Want to know how to make it?

Here’s my recipe (I’ve linked each product that I used.):

1/4 cup coconut oil, melted

1 cup sugar

Juice of 1 lemon (my lemons were small, so I used one and a half lemons)

8 oz mason jar

Directions:

  1. Melt the coconut oil. I submerged the jar of coconut oil in a sink full of hot water up to the neck of the jar to melt it. Don’t cover the lid.
  2. Pour 1/4 cup of melted coconut oil into the mason jar.
  3. Add sugar to the melted coconut oil and stir.
  4. Add lemon juice and stir again until completely combined.
  5. Put in your shower and enjoy.

Super simple and super awesome. How great would this be as a gift? It would be really cute in an 8 oz jar and even cuter in a 4 oz mason jar. I clearly have a 12 oz jar here.

Your turn! Go make this then come back and tell me how much you loved it.

*Be prepared for it to solidify more than this as the scrub comes to room temperature. My coconut oil was still pretty warm at the time the pictures were taken. It’s totally normal for it to solidify, and it will liquefy in your hands as you apply it.

Thanks for coming to hang out here today. I hope you have a great one!
